Review:

Daddy by Default by Shawn Bailey is an easy, sweet read. I’ve read a couple of books by this author and she writes fast-paced romances with sexy heroes.

I love books that involve families. It’s always interesting to see characters grow and evolve when a child comes in the mix. One of the things I did like about this book was Derek’s loving relationship with his family. When it comes to raising his nephew, he is determined to be a good provider and loving uncle. Derek is also a genuinely nice guy who is easy to like. It was easy to understand why Chance became so enamored with him, because he is that kind of guy who everyone likes and admires in the end.

Like Derek, Chance was a good guy too. Though he’s five years older than Derek, Chance still enjoys hanging out with friends and the single life. When he meets and falls for Derek, Chance truly gives his decision on whether or not to have something special with Derek a lot of thought. He knows being with Derek will mean settling down and he wants to make sure that he makes the right decision…not only for him but for Derek and his nephew, Jaden too.

As I mentioned earlier, this is a sweet story and I liked it. I do wish the relationship between Chance and Derek had been fleshed out more. There is an insta-love factor to their relationship that might bother some, but I liked it. *Yes I believe in love at first sight* I just wish there had been a little more depth to their love. Sometimes it seemed a little one-dimensional and rushed. It has a lovely ending which I loved, but I felt a tad bit cheated because the last chapter or two was more generalized and not as emotionally driven as I would have liked.

Daddy by Default would be a good choice for those readers who crave an easy, lovely read. It’s a good rainy day / feel good story that will surely leave a smile on your face.

Sexual Healing by Shawn Bailey

Title: Sexual Healing
Author: Shawn Bailey
Publisher: Phaze Publishing
Pages: 87
Characters: Ezra Benedict, Maya Chiyo
POV: 3rd
Sub-Genre: Contemporary, Interracial Romance
Kisses: 3.5

Blurb:

Twenty-seven-year old Ezra Benedict has given up on finding true romance. He is a romantic at heart and has always believed in the sanctity of being in a monogamous relationship. But unfortunately the men in his past have been anything but faithful. He jumps at a chance to relocate to Japan to fulfill his dream of being a travel photographer. During a photo-shoot before he leaves he sees the most gorgeous young Japanese woman he ever laid eyes on, who flirts with him shamelessly while she poses. Ezra’s body responds and becomes aroused.

He can’t figure it out because one, he’s been impotent for a year, and two, he’s gay. Following his doctor’s advice Ezra visits a club and tries to flirt with women to see if he can obtain an erection again, but nothing happens. Ezra leaves for Japan and goes in search of the model Maya Chiyo since he’s convinced that only she can help cure him.

Nineteen-year-old old Maya Chiyo has only known one American in his life and is curious when he sees photographer Ezra Benedict. He meets the man while he’s in full geisha makeup and costume during a photo-shoot and flirts with him for fun. Little did he know that Ezra took him serious until he sees the man waiting for him outside the college campus where Maya is a student.

Ezra demands that Maya take responsibility and date him once he learns that Maya is actually a guy. Maya thinks Ezra is crazy, but is soon drawn to the older guy with the sad expression and beautiful light brown eyes.

Will Maya ignore what his heart is telling him or just do what is expected of him?

Review:

It’s no secret that I love a May/December romance, so when I saw this one was up to read and review, I had to read it. Although, I had a few niggles with this read, I still liked it and thought the two heroes were interesting men.

The blurb does an excellent job at describing the story. Mending a broken heart, Ezra, is a popular photographer, who immediately becomes enchanted by a female fashion model, Maya. This confuses him because he identifies himself as gay and he doesn’t understand why he’s attracted to her. Soon, he discovers that Maya isn’t a beautiful female, but a stunning male model, whose androgynous look allows him to easily pass as either sex.

Soon, Ezra finds himself transferred to Japan, and he becomes more acquainted with Maya, and soon learns that there is definitely more to Maya than meets the eye. As the two men begin to form a friendship that develops into more, Ezra is faced with the choice of taking a chance at having something very special with Maya or keeping his heart guarded at becoming hurt again.

Ezra was a likeable man. He’s ambitious and his talent for capturing unique and beautiful pictures has given him a good reputation. Although Ezra’s career is on an all time high, he’s been nursing a past hurt that has affected his ability to gain an erection. But once he meets, Maya, he’s not only physically attracted to him, he’s also intrigued with the younger man as well. Maya is very family oriented and his determination to make something more out of his life is really attractive to Ezra. But Ezra is worried that the younger man will hurt him, and he knows that Maya still has a lot of life to live.

Maya knows that even though he’s a popular model, it’s not something he can rely on forever. Determined to be a doctor, he goes to college, studies hard and still tries to make time to be with his family and friends. As soon as he meets Ezra, Maya is immediately attracted to him. Ezra is handsome, successful and an easy person for him to become friends with. As their relationship develops, Maya finds himself falling hard for Ezra, but when an old flame reappears in his life, he is soon faced with a decision that will change the rest of his life.

Sexual Healing was a good read. The characters definitely had some strong chemistry between them. I also enjoyed watching Ezra learn more about the Japanese culture as well as truly make an effort to be with Maya. The reason why this is not a higher rating for me is because there were a few things that were quickly washed over as Ezra and Maya’s relationship developed. I didn’t like how Maya dropped everything (including a heated moment with Ezra) to meet up with his ex-boyfriend. This caused me to believe that he really DID have unresolved feelings for his ex and that he was in denial of them.

I thought Ezra was a very forgiving man and at times Maya was a little immature. *in Maya’s defense he IS only 19* In the end, this was an interesting, easy read that I enjoyed. I honestly do not know if this couple will be together a few years from now, but the ending was great and I still have high hopes for them.

Review:

I found What Child Is This by Shawn Bailey to be a sweet and endearing love story and it’s just a perfect read for the Christmas Holidays.

Paris spent his whole life in an orphanage, when he arrived at Wyatt’s peach farm to be a housekeeper he fell in love with Jeff, Wyatt’s 2 year old son and within days was in love with Wyatt also.

Wyatt lost his heart the moment he saw Paris.
There was no angst in this story, just two men falling in love and a precious little boy.

I recommend this book and it will certainly put you in the holiday spirit. If you have not read Shawn Bailey‘s work yet, try this one and her other works you can’t go wrong.

Review:

Wicked Harvest is a fun fantasy story.
A contest on Halloween night on how many souls can be collected, Jonathan was dreading teaching a Fay, Magician how to reap souls until he met Morgan.

The instant attraction between Jonathan and Morgan is explosive and leads to some very scorching, steamy sex that riveting!

I loved this book, though it is a Halloween story, it is such a fun tale it can be enjoyed anytime!

I easily recommend this book and I know you will enjoy reading about Grim Reapers, Death Angels, Fae, and Magic mixed with sexy scenes and great humor.

Nagi, also known as Little Boss, is raised to believe the best kind of witness is a dead one, but when he discovers his savior works in a newly acquired club, he comes up with a better alternative and makes Kasey his lover.

Review:

Little Boss may be 173 pages long, but it really reads more like a 60 page novella. It’s an easy to read, straight forward story that kept me turning the pages.

Unfortunately this is not as memorable story as it could be. As I write this review I’m struggling to remember the details of the storyline. The story moved along smoothly enough but it failed to get under my skin and make me live the story. I always felt as though I was surfing along the top of the story, never getting the full or deep picture. It was rather like reading a first draft that still needs fleshing out. Every situation including the sex scenes felt like it needed more depth, more description, more emotion, more everything. Something I couldn’t help being disappointed by.

I haven’t read many books aimed at young adults so can’t be sure, but I can’t help wondering whether that’s the audience that Little Boss is aimed at rather than a past middle aged reader like me.

Meanwhile, Prince Edward, Piers’ and Gunther’s cousin has his eye on Anastasia Angelo, Blaine’s older sister. Nothing is exactly what it seems. Are the princes as happy as they appear or will one of them discover they’ve made a very big mistake?

Review:

I’ve read several books by Ms. Bailey and although I’ve liked some more than others, I’ve always thought she writes a solid story with interesting characters. What I really liked about this book was the relationship the family has together. It showed that Ms. Bailey really knew the heart and soul of her characters and I found myself really caring about them too.

Although, Gunther and Blaine are the main heroes in this story, it’s really more than just your standard romance. The relationship (or not) between Prince Edward and Penelope played a big part of it too. This book definitely has a menagerie of characters that have a lot going on in their lives, and since we get to witness things as they go along between most of them, it’s more of a character driven story than just a romance.

I really liked Gunther and Blaine together. I will say I wish there had been more scenes with them in it. I thought their relationship was a tad bit rushed, but it was enjoyable. There were things I felt like I missed as their relationship grew, but in the end, they were pretty good and hot together.

As I said, this is not your standard romance. It’s more of a story between this quirky family and the affection and love they have for each other. If you are looking for well-written characters in which all of them drive the storyline, I would say this is definitely the book for you. I liked it and it’s an easy book to recommend as long as you aren’t expecting a lot of scenes between the two main characters. I’m looking forward to reading more books by Ms. Bailey in the future.

Soul Mate by Shawn Bailey

Kisses: 2

Blurb:

Edna Murphy places a personal ad to find her son, Jovan, a mate. He spends most of his time working or fishing with friends and rarely goes out on a date. She wants him to find someone nice and settle down.

Galen Costas drives his mother crazy. He cooks dinner three times a week, does the grocery shopping, and cleans and arranges the furniture. And he doesn’t even live in the same house. Gemma thinks he needs a life and takes matters into her own hands by answering a lonely heart ad.

Jovan and Galen click the moment they meet. But their match made in heaven could be ruined by a man from Galen’s past.

Review:

Once I read the blurb to Soul Mate, I knew I had to read it. Unfortunately, I don’t think the book was as good as I expected it to be, and it didn’t quite live up to my expectations, but it was a quick, easy read and the sex between the two men was pretty hot.

Galen and Jovan’s mothers want them to find someone to date. Even though they meddle in their lives, they have good intentions and it was cool seeing how much their parents really loved them. I think part of my problem with the book was how fast Galen and Jovan jumped into their relationship. Once they met, they were in bed within the first five minutes. Sex was definitely a big part of their relationship, and although I do understand this, I never really thought they connected on a more emotional level.

Although both men were interesting people, I thought they were a little one-dimensional to me. As I read the book, I found myself easily becoming distracted and I stopped reading this story several times before I finished it. I felt like the story was being told instead of shown to me. I thought Galen and Jovan’s relationship moved a little too quickly and I had a hard time getting into their story.

Now, this doesn’t mean you won’t like the book. There will be readers who will like the sizzling physical chemistry the two men have together. They immediately click and their story moves fast, so if you like quick reads, you might like this one. Also, the author is a good writer. I’ve read several books by her and although I’ve liked some more than others, I keep coming back to her books because she does have a lot of potential and I’m always interested in seeing what creative storyline she comes up with next.

As you can tell, this book really wasn’t for me, but you should check it out for yourself. Silver’s website has an excerpt you can read and you can come up with your own opinion about it. As for me, in the end I’m glad I read it and I look forward to reading more by the author in the future.
