Out of the Cage: Lifting the spirits of another can lift your own spirits, too.

Hector is fresh out of a cage for the first time in his memory. Learning about the world is exciting and scary, and he looks forward to experiencing life. While out having fun with his flock-mates, Hector runs across a human, Rocky, who smells amazing and makes his Scops owl flutter wildly inside his mind. Except, the guy turns down his request to dance. He learns later that Rocky is a bouncer, so he’s at the bar working. Wanting to catch him either before or after his shift, Hector begins to regularly frequent the club. Unfortunately, that earns him the reputation of being a party-boy, which causes Rocky to keep his distance. The human claims he has responsibilities which a partier wouldn’t understand. How can Hector, so new to freedom, convince Rocky that he can handle responsibility when the human won’t even tell him what it is?

Review:

Setting His Owl A-Twitter by Charlie Richards is a sweet and sexy addition to the Wolves of Stoneridge series. Ms. Richards has a true knack of writing interesting characters with fast paced stories that are nothing short of being guilty pleasures.

One of the things I liked about this book was Hector. Hector is an owl shifter who has been abused most of his life. He’s innocent and sweet and as I learned more about him, his angelic sweetness really pulled at my heartstrings as a reader. When Hector meets Rocky, he’s immediately drawn to the handsome man because all of his instincts tell him that Rocky is Hector’s mate. Rocky is a good guy. He was an easy man to like and I understood why Hector was so enamored with him.

As sweet as this story was I guess I as I read it, I felt like I was missing something. Please don’t get me wrong, this is classic Charlie Richards and those who love her stories will definitely like this book, but I couldn’t help but wish there was something more between the two characters. I know shifter stories have a fast-love-conquers all storyline, but I really, really wish their relationship had moved at a slower pace and would have loved watching something richer develop between them. I thought the story was too washed over in places and although Hector was adorable, he wasn’t cute enough for me to truly love this story as I have so many of her others.

Setting His Owl A-Twitter
is a good story, it’s just not one of my favorites by her. I’m definitely looking forward to reading more by Ms. Richards and I can recommend this book to those who love this series and author as well.

Since Jackson’s partner died, life is one big routine. When he meets his neighbor, Elijah, he’s intrigued by the mysterious man, and his somber world becomes exciting and beautiful. Elijah needed a fresh start after working in the dark world of pornography. Finding the strength to move away from drug abuse and his despised existence, he moves to Charlestown and discovers a connection with Jackson unlike anything before. Fear of losing the one man he’s come to rely on keeps Elijah silent even as he grows determined to be a man worthy of Jackson’s love. When Elijah’s secrets are revealed, will Jackson be able to see past his former life and stand proudly beside the man Elijah is today?

T2B’s Take:

  • So, here we have Jackson, an accountant who lives alone and surrounded by people who love him. He’s not really happy deep inside himself and hadn’t been since his husband was killed in a car accident. (Andi likes to kill her characters off in cars! I am so glad she’s not killed me off! I don’t want to die in a car wreck!) A teenager did it and Jackson’s life was forever changed. He went to work, went home, ate, spent time with his lovely amazing dog in their huge sanctuary of a back yard.
  • And this is where his life takes a turn for the better. Enter the lovely and adorable Elijah. I fell in love with him immediately. He’s a spark of light and energy, and so fragile that I almost wanted to reach in and take care of him myself, then realized that would be odd…LOL! But really, Andi wrote him so well, she engaged my senses with this couple.
  • We have two flawed men in this story and they manage to find solace in each others presence, so naturally something has to happen on the happy scale! This is an Anderson title and as I’ve said, IMO she’s the Queen of Sweet! These two characters are made for each other and Jackson, even though he was married before, well, I don’t think he was truly him with his hubby because of his internal thoughts when he and Elijah do things, fun things, or even nothing. His hubby didn’t like to do some things, and though it’s not required to make a relationship work, cuddling and kissing should be! The fact that little Elijah loved to do so, as well as Jackson, well that made Jackson realize he’d been missing out on some things in his life.
  • Elijah arrives in the small town a bruised and battered man who is doing all he can to stay off drugs and alcohol, as that’s all he did since he was just thirteen I believe. He was a porn star, and he did it because he thought he was in love. His story is so sad and he’s scared to death to share it with the man he’s falling more in love with every day. When he decides to tell Jackson the truth of his past, he was prepared to rush out of the other man’s house to save face.
  • Jackson is a natural caretaker and Elijah is the one who needs exactly that. They go together so damn well. Jackson is a cuddly bear with Elijah and then the ending happened and I had a tear or two in my eyes! Wait till you meet them and see how Elijah is around Jackson’s friends! You’ll love these two as much as I do! I can guarantee it!

Blurb-

All eight year old, Daniel ever wanted was a family. When he lost both parents in a horrible car accident, he made a Christmas wish a year and a half ago to be part of a happy family once more. Young Daniel knew he’d been granted a Christmas miracle the day that Nick Kirkland walked into his and his Uncle Josh’s lives. Ever since then, Daniel has grown and blossomed from the unconditional love and support that both men have given him.

But, Daniel wants more.

Daniel’s dream has been for his Uncle Josh and his fiance, Nick, to finally tie the knot and truly give Daniel for once and for all the family and stability that he has always wanted. When the question of Nick becoming an official guardian to Daniel comes to light, Daniel realizes that the only thing that would be even better than having two loving Uncles taking care of him…is having the two men he loves most in the world married, and calling them both Father instead.

T2B’s Take:

  • Since I read the first two titles,  I had to read and review this one too! It was a pleasure and honestly, I already miss the little matchmaker that Daniel became in a mere eighteen months.
  • His life with Nick and Josh is perfect. He has everything he needs, but most importantly he has the love of two wonderful men who are perfect for not only each other, but astonishing fathers! I wish I knew men like this in real life!
  • So, there’s Josh and Nick and they have been dating for over a year, and they are happy, but there’s always room for more happy, isn’t there? And that’s where Andi focuses with this story. Daniel wants his uncle to marry Nick, and so did I! Nick is a hoot! He’s the perfect stay at home dad and a terrific man for Josh. They are sweet, loving, respectful, and guiding Daniel in the right direction.
  • I have NO complaints with this story. Not a one. It went smooth. Easy read. Lots of love and kisses, and the sex scenes are great! Though, remember we have an eight year old in the house, it’s tough to have sex with a little one around, as some of you know!
  • Once again, Andi won another award in my opinion. ‘Sweetest romance writer of the year!’ This story ends with a happy note and Daniel finally gets what he’s wanted since the day he moved in with Josh. A family. This story goes to show you that yes, ANY couple can raise children as long as there is love and guidance. I wish the bigots in the world would give these two stories a shot. They need to see how great the men are at being dads. It’s not always best to have a mom and dad when they or one is hooked on drugs or perhaps abusive. So, two moms, or two dads, there’s not a thing wrong with the combo. People are people. Regardless of the sexuality, you small minded twits!
  • Sorry, Andi, didn’t mean to go there, but you did a wonderful job showing the love and making me feel it! Thank you for giving this to us!

For most children, all they want for Christmas is the latest video game or the most popular toy, but that’s not what Daniel wants. He wants to be a family again. Since his parents were killed in a horrific car accident over a year ago, Daniel had been living with his beloved Uncle Josh. Even though Daniel knows his Uncle does his best to make him happy, Daniel still longs for the contentment and secure feeling he felt when his parents were alive. He wants a family, and on the first magical snow of the season, he wishes to have a family again.

When Nick is interviewed by Joshua Thomas to be a live in nanny, he is immediately drawn to the young boy and his Uncle Josh. Even though both of them obviously love each other, there is something missing between them. When Nick gets the job, he becomes determined to bring laughter and happiness back into both of their lives. As Christmas quickly approaches, Nick decides to do whatever it takes to bring them together as a happy family forever.

T2B’s Take:

  • Andi Anderson, IMO- wins the medal for The Sweetest Love stories ever written.
  • If you’re looking for an easy relaxing happy story with an adorable little one who keeps things real, you have to give this one a go. Daniel, the little one, has been put through way too much in his young life, suffering the loss of his parents at the same time in a nasty wreck. It’s not to say he’s a sad depressed and self pitying individual, he’s a kid, and they have the ability to handle things better than adults do at times. lI think Daniel is lucky that he has Josh, his uncle to raise him, after their shared loss. Josh is the perfect dad. He’s kind, he’s quiet spoken, he’s fun, he’s determined, and incredibly responsible. He’s everything Daniel needs and when Josh needs to get a sitter for young Daniel, the cute and adorable Nick appears out of nowhere and gives this small family more than a few smiles and good times. He makes it possible to believe in love for them both. I think it’s Christmas magic working for them, but talk about a sweet story and a very incredible ending, we got that here ten-fold.
  • Andi Anderson IS the queen of sweetness and her ‘Men of Charlestown,’ are the hotties who keep her company.
  • Need a great fast read? Try it, you won’t be sorry. And the sex scenes? HOT as hell…wow! I wish everyone could write a scene with the ease Andi does. Thank you, Andi, for sharing your talent with us.

Gabbi Reviews: Rick by Catherine Lievens

Title: Gillham Pack, Book 5: Rick

Characters: Cole, Rick
POV: 3rd
Sub-Genre: Paranormal, Shifter, Series
Kisses: 4.5

How can you trust anyone when you’ve been abused all your life?

Rick has spent all his life under Alpha Erskine’s thumb. He was forced to become part of the man’s inner circle when his father died and to participate in things that still give him nightmares. He’s used to being shunned, beaten, and derided for his stutter, and he doesn’t think things really can change, not even with Kameron as their new alpha.

Cole is part of the council, but he’s really a wandering soul. He hasn’t stopped in one place in years, but meeting his mate while visiting the Gillham pack changes that. He knows Rick hasn’t had an easy life, and he intends to make his mate happy, no matter what it takes. Rick struggles with his stutter and his past but slowly starts healing from the years of abuse. Cole is an important part of that healing, but what will happen when someone tries to take him away? Will Rick be strong enough to protect his mate, or will he lose him to greed?

Review:

Rick is the fifth book in the Gillham Pack series by Catherine Lievens. So far, I’ve really enjoyed watching this series grow and evolve with new and interesting characters that truly bring something special to the series itself.

One of the reasons why I enjoyed Rick so much was the way the relationship between Rick and Cole develop as their story continues. In the past, Rick has been abused so he is quite skittish. He stutters and honestly doesn’t think much of himself. Rick works hard and give everything he has to his alcoholic mother who doesn’t appreciate him and all that he does for her. When he meets Cole, Rick is stunned by the knowledge that not only is Cole being kind and thoughtful toward him…Cole is also his mate, too. Because of his past abuse, Rick isn’t sure about having a mate because he doesn’t know if he’ll ever be able to fully trust someone again. But, what Rick doesn’t expect is Cole’s sweetness and determination to make Rick trust him and be mated with him forever.

I knew it was going to be a hard thing for Cole to get Rick to trust him. But with Cole’s never-ending patience and the friendship he offers to Rick, Rick soon begins to blossom under the careful guidance and love Cole gives him. I truly began to believe that these two men belonged together and enjoyed watching them get to know each, become friends and eventually fall in love.

Ms. Lievens has a real knack of writing unique and compelling characters that live and breathe off of the written page. As the series continues to grow, this reader is addicted to see what the author has in store for us next.

Although Rick could be read as a stand-alone book in the series, I highly recommend reading the Gillham Pack series in book order. Each character and book really brings enriches the series itself and had made it a highly addictive series to read.

Sub-Genre: Paranormal, Shapeshifter, Series

It’s not easy to trust when you’ve already been burned.

Nysys is a member of the paranormal council, but he knows no one actually takes him seriously. When Morin Glass asks for help and protection, Nysys takes the opportunity and asks Dominic to be assigned as the man’s bodyguard. He never expects to find out Morin is his mate, but he has no intention to actually tell him. He knows they’re too different, their worlds miles apart.

Morin has taken his father’s place as the head of the Glass Research Company even though he didn’t want to. He’s horrified by what the man has done and intends to work with the council to make things as right as they can. He has a problem, though. A killer is after him, and he needs help.

Nysys and Morin slowly grow closer as the days pass, but the killer is never far away. They also have to deal with Rayford Glass’ trial and hostile council members. Will it be enough to tear them apart before they really have a chance at happiness?

Review:

Nysys is the thirteenth book in the Whitedell Pride series by Catherine Lievens. I was anxious to read this book because I have totally gotten addicted to this series and couldn’t wait to see what Ms. Lievens had in store for us. I’m very happy to say that Nysys was a sexy and well-written book that kept this reader’s interest from start to finish. I ended up staying up way past my bedtime because I was so captivated by these two men and the story they had to tell.

The reason I loved this book was because of the two heroes themselves. At first glance, one would never think that Nysys and Morin would ever fit together. For example: Nysys dresses outrageously, has pink hair, tattoos and many piercings…whereas Morin is very conservative with his dress and how he expresses himself. Nysys still struggles to find his way in life and Morin enjoys his job and has many goals he must achieve.

You truly wouldn’t think these two men would make sense together, but they really did! I loved the way they brought out the best in each other and even though in many ways they are not the same they still had a lot of things in common too. I loved the way they really liked and respected each other. They truly bonded and their story is one of my favorites in the series because I truly believed they fell in love.

Not only Nysys heavy on romance, it is packed with a lot of action and adventure. I did find myself wondering what was going to happen next and was thoroughly entertained throughout the novel.

I can’t wait to see what Ms. Lievens has in store for us next! If you’re a fan of paranormal romance, then Nysys is a book not to be missed! It’ll be a definite favorite to the Whitedell Pride series and one that will live with you long after you finish reading the book.

Highly Recommended!
