Title: Gratefully His
Author: Shawn Lane
Publisher: JMS Books
Characters: Sebastian Walton, Pablo Rivera
Sub-Genre: Contemporary Romance, Series
When Sebastian Walton was sixteen, he got his first kiss from a guy, and that guy was his best friend’s older brother, Pablo Rivera. But after the scorching kiss in the Rivera’s swimming pool, Pablo acted like nothing happened between them.
Six years later, Sebastian is close to graduating from college and poised to achieve his dream of going to medical school. During a semester break, he visits his old neighborhood and the Riveras, where openly gay Pablo, now a police officer, is sexier than ever and determined to win Sebastian for good.
Gratefully His by Shawn Lane is a quick and sexy read from start to finish. I couldn’t help but get wrapped up into these characters lives and I enjoyed the story they had to tell.
Sebastian and Pablo are good together. I enjoyed the camaraderie these two heroes shared between them and they had a sizzling attraction toward one another that could not be denied. Though this book is not necessarily a coming of age story, in some ways it reminded me of one.
Sebastian has been afraid to reveal his sexuality to his family and friends. He’s tired of living a lie but the fear of how the people closest to him will react to his homosexuality keeps him closeted. Sebastian is almost out of college *he’s 22* and he’s really starting to develop into being a man. Other than his closeted sexuality, Sebastian has a strong sense of doing what’s right and working hard to get into medical school.
On the other hand, Pablo is just coming out of a bad relationship. He’s known Sebastian for years and though they’ve shared a quick and forbidden kiss years ago, Pablo can’t forget how much he wanted the younger Sebastian to be his. Pablo is a hard worker and is devoted to his family. He is an easy character to like and I totally understood why Sebastian would be drawn to a man like him. (who wouldn’t?)
Gratefully His is a fast-paced story that would be a perfect vacation read. It’s short and sexy and the relationship that is just beginning to develop and flourish between Pablo and Sebastian is a sweet and memorable one. This is an easy book to recommend and an asset to a highly enjoyable series.
Gratefully His is the 7th book in the His series. Though these books are definitely stand-alone reads, I do recommend reading the other books in the series because they are all sexy and romantic reads.
