Forced together for three months at a Vermont lake house with Trev’s family, the boys influence each other in unexpected ways, and despite their differences, a real bond begins to form. What will it take for a fake odd couple to become a real one?
Boyfriend Goals by Clancy Nacht and Thursday Euclid is a well-written, coming of age story that really resonated with me as a reader.
One the of the first things that struck me as I read this story was the intense attraction these two young men feel for one another. I enjoyed the heated chemistry they shared between them and as they got to know one another, I also enjoyed the friendship the heroes formed between them.
There relationship begins on a lie. Trev is determined to make his parents take his sexuality seriously and it’s because of that, he enlists Lee’s help to show them that not only is he gay, he is capable of having a successful relationship, despite his parents misgivings. Though Lee claims he is heterosexual, his flirtatious personality, confuses Trev. Plus, Lee has an easy going personality and his willingness to pretend he is Trev’s boyfriend with ease keeps Trev on his toes throughout the story.
First, I would like to point out that this is not a gay for you story. Both men are coming to terms with their sexual side and they have to face the reality that things are not always what it seems. Though their relationship begins with a lie, the truth of how they feel about one another becomes the heart of the book.
This coming to age story is one of the best I’ve read in a long time. I loved how Trev and Lee really work hard at being true to themselves, and I highly enjoyed the way they learn to communicate with each other. The transition from strangers to friends to lovers was a beautiful thing to read and I loved every minute of it.
Clancy Nacht and Thursday Euclid are one of my favorite writing teams. Each of their stories have strong heroes, interesting story-lines and their stories are always well-written and so addictive to read. Their characters are so easy to fall in love with and I enjoy the hours of escapism these authors stories give me.
