Title: Demon Duke
Author: SJ Frost
Publisher: MLR Press
Characters: Calvin Blackwood, Sal
Sub-Genre: Paranormal, Demons, Vampires, Witches
As a witch, Calvin Blackwood knows the dangers of demons, but to save his brother, he’s willing to enter into a deal with demon duke, Sal, and give him anything the demon wants in return, including himself.
A month ago, Calvin Blackwood found himself in the company of vampires, having been hired to use his talent as a witch to summon a demon. That demon ended up saving his life. In the time since, he hasn’t been able to forget about Sal. He knows entering a deal with a demon is dangerous, but to save his brother, binding himself to the beautiful demon might be worth the risk.
Sal is a duke among demons. An immortal being, more powerful than a vampire, but who has one admitted weakness, a fondness for humans. When Calvin comes to him to make a deal, he’s hesitant, but can’t deny his need to be closer to him. He also knows if he doesn’t help him, Calvin will summon another demon, and he knows all too well the treachery of his own kind.
Desire and trust builds between Calvin and Sal. Their relationship grows, but so does a hidden threat, and it might take power greater than a demon duke to save them. It might take that of a witch.
Demon Duke by SJ Frost is the second book in the Paranormal Nobles series. I admit that I anxious to see this book to be released. I absolutely loved the first book, Vampire Prince and I had a strong suspicion that I would love the second book in the series as well.
Ms. Frost knows how to write romance. It is so easy to get wrapped up into her characters’ lives. Her secondary characters usually play a main part in the story itself, which causes this reader to totally fall for all of them. We meet the demon, Sal in the first book and his flirtatious humor allows him to be an easy character to like. Plus, he has this sensuous side to him that really resonates off of the written page.
I also really enjoyed the heated chemistry between Sal and Calvin. Calvin is new to his witchcraft and when he summons Sal to help him, the physical attraction they shared between them practically steamed up my computer screen. It was so easy to enjoy the banter and friendship that these two men began to share together. I, as a reader, really enjoyed the fact that these two men not only were lovers, but became friends as well. Watching their relationship develop between them was a fun and interesting one to watch and I for one, loved every minute they shared together in this book.
Another great thing about this book is continuation of the story as a series itself. It’s really interesting to see how things are progressing with all of the characters and I know I’m anxious to see what Ms. Frost has in store for us next.
Ms. Frost’s Paranormal Nobles series is one of the best I’ve read this year. It is so easy to wrapped up into these characters’ lived and I know I can’t wait to see what happens next!
The Paranormal Nobles series in book order are:
The Vampire Prince
Although Demon Duke could probably be read as a stand alone book, I HIGHLY recommend reading The Vampire Prince first. There is an ongoing backstory and each and every one of the characters bring something special to the story.
