Mason has been tasked with the job of helping his fellow shifters escape from the compound. Two techs need his help to ensure the breakout goes smoothly. One of those techs, Brennan, has a thing for Mason—and Mason has a thing for Brennan too.
Once Mason and his three friends are out of the compound, running for their lives across the expanse of the Yorkshire Moors, Mason wonders whether they’ll manage to be free for more than the time it takes to speed farther than a few feet. Freedom—the feeling of it is addictive, and Mason wants more of it. He isn’t prepared to give it up without a fight.
With Brennan by his side, Mason knows he can accomplish anything. There is one burning question, though. Can Mason really accept who he is? Can he learn to love himself as half shark, half gorilla? If he doesn’t, he has a feeling life won’t be all roses, despite being free of the compound.
So, he’ll just have to give his new life his best shot, won’t he?
After being created in a lab, his DNA spliced with both canine and primate genes, Dex has spent his entire life locked up. He has always longed to see the outside world and to find lasting love with that one special person—dreams he never thought would come to fruition. Yet when he and his friends discover a plot to kill them all, they have no choice but to plan an escape. A life outside the walls of their compound is everything that Dex has ever hoped for, but there’s only one problem—James, a lab technician who Dex can’t seem to get out of his heart or head.
When scientists mess with the most primitive elements of a man’s core, the results are bound to be explosive.
Joey has it tough. Not only has he been spliced with a kangaroo and a gorilla, he’s also been brought to the other side of the world. Feeling exploited, desperate and wishing he had love, companionship and acceptance, he takes the risk of leaving the compound in the search of happiness. But will he find it? Or has the person he’s drawn to got other ideas? It certainly seems that way as the temperature goes from boiling hot to downright frosty.
George hates change, but when his only two options are death or escape, he runs away with his friends into the unknown. Will he be able to find not only a new life, but a new love?
Yes, I read this series and it was unlike anything I’d ever read. I mean, I’ve read a lot of shifter stories. There are several types too. We have wolves, dogs, tigers, elephants, lions, and I could go on and on but you get the jest, right? What I haven’t read up until recently were stories about genetically created individuals who were made in a lab by mad scientists. I’m not talking upset….angry scientists..I’m talking about crazy as all get out, mad scientists…think Dr. Jekyll meets Lex Luther and they were let loose to make anything they wanted. HOLY SHIT! I dunno about you but that would be interesting….As long as it’s a movie or a book. I don’t want to see a real shif….well maybe that would be sorta cool. To see a real shifter?! Hmm…Anyway….onward….(No scary shifters though.)
In this series the crazy guys spliced DNA from two different animals and injected those in test tube babies just to see what would happen. I mean, read the titles and you’ll get the answers. We have book one titled SharkORilla….that’s a Shark and a Gorilla mix….and add the man as the human who is the shifter….Just, wait….Imagine seeing a man begin to shift….(Sure, you’re hell brave NOW, but if it really did begin to happen you’d probably stand there, scream your bloody head off, pee your pants, and then run away-as fast and as far as you could get. Don’t even try to deny it because I would be right behind you!) So, this person begins to shift and his head doesn’t just grow a long snout with a black wet nose…OH no…this shifter’s head turns into a SHARK’S HEAD…a shark…the head of a shark….here, here’s a picture of a shark just to give you a better visual….Yes…right?! A shark head…hmm…creepy…okay, now, lets add the body of a gorilla…it’s not just any gorilla…it’s the great silver-back one…here’s a picture Please, close your eyes and blend the two. Got it? The mental, right? So, in this particular story, and keep in mind these are short ones, so the backstory is given to you in each of them through the eyes of each individual we meet. SharkORilla by Sarah Masters stars Mason and lab tech Brennan. Also, I forgot to add that these men, shifters, splicers, whichever, have been born and raised in a lab..all but Joey, who is the Kangorilla…he was born in Australia then moved to the lab in the UK…and watched, tested, studied, all of it since the moment of labby conception…from babies to men they lived, damn near strapped to tables and studied, poked, examined, even when they jacked off! All of their personal time…well, they had NONE….everything from sleeping to peeing was recorded and oftentimes strapped down on tables and probably sedated to keep them under control because if you’ll look all of them have that ORILLA bit in them…with the head of something else actually….body of a ORILLA and the head of in this case shark…But let me stop that, lets move on….Anyways, Brennan and another tech were talking one night in Mason’s room and we find out that the four of them, the shifters were going to be put down, killed….why? Because the crazed scientists learned all they could learn from them and letting them loose wasn’t an option…it would most definitely have all of them in prison for this, right? So, a break them free plan is put into motion….
Brennan and his lab partner team up with a couple other guys and devise a way to get them out of there and to safety. The escape is fast and a success and along the way Brennan and Mason realize they are mates for life and they get their HEA….I won’t go into detail for you because it’s a short story….I’d ruin it if I did that and I don’t want to do that….
Next is PUGORILLA….YES! A pug face and an ORILLA body….out of the four stories, this one here made me chuckle a bit…the image! A pug dog’s face…here….with the body of that silverback above…a big orilla and a small puggy face! THE IMAGE! lol! Just….how crazy is that?! Falls into the crazed scientists bit really well, right? Of course I have to laugh and if the writer didn’t while thinking this up, UMM…I just dunno what to say…In PUGORILLA we have Dex, the pug/gorilla/man mix and James, the lab tech and friend to Mason who manage to also realize they are mates while they are on the run from the crazy people…a cute short and now lets move on….
KANGORILLA! Joey and his twins star in this story…he meets them at the little bar they all stopped at to get their acts together…Joey has the body of the roo and the orilla…and just the cutest personality! Wait till you meet his mates..and this is a menage! A way too short one at that….OH the picture I have in my head of how Joey looks when he shifts! LOL! Sorry..but it’s funny as hell…(And my personal fav.)
Elephorilla….(the hardest one for me to pronounce!) And OK..the craziest one to picture….Stars Charlie who despises change and protects his friends with his life is also the shyest one in the group….he’s a big ole’ softie who also finds his place in the world….
Overall these shorts are cute reads…I will say that you must not go at this series with a serious attitude or you won’t even like the first part of the first short story…you must go at these with a light mind and don’t expect the world to change just because you read them….they are fast reads and mostly meant to entertain…the sex scenes with all these guys are well written and I don’t know how these writers did it, but we are dealing with guys who are flawed and as real as characters can get. Dimensional is the word. The writers did a good job at having fun and I’m glad I was able to join in it…as a reader of course…No talent here….but to put these stories together as these gals did..BRAVO…
