Title: Sex, Ties, and Videotape
Author: Eva Lefoy
Publisher: MLR Press
Characters: Geoffrey, Paul
Sub-Genre: Contemporary, BDSM, Erotic Romance
A missed trip to Paris results in two long-time casual friends finding BDSM heaven instead.
Geoffrey begged his ex boyfriend, Brian, for some bondage, not public humiliation on YouTube. On Valentine’s Day, he runs into Brian’s best friend Paul, who seems intent on righting Brian’s wrongs. But trusting Paul means Geoffrey has to come clean with his needs … and his feelings.
Paul sees Geoffrey in the bar and knows this is his chance to convince him he’s nothing like Brian. He starts slow and safe, setting strict ground rules. But when Geoffrey insists on a reenactment of the same dom-play Brian used to hurt him, is a safeword enough to protect their fledgling love?
For a novella, this has surprising depth in characters, a fascinating plot device, and amazingly hot sex. The happy trifecta. As the blurb states, Geoffrey’s ex did a number on him, public humiliation just for fun. Paul has wanted Geoffrey from day one, but Brian got there first. Now Paul has a second chance, and he’s not about to miss the opportunity.
Being turned on by BDSM is seen odd by many men, same as bottoming, as though there’s something wrong with you for wanting those things. Brian was a callous bastard who laughed at Geoffrey’s deepest inclinations. Fortunately, Paul is nothing like him, and he and Geoffrey share a similar kink. Plus, they are super good and hot together.
Despite the length of the story, the men feel real. We get both POVs, and they work well to give us insight into these men and how they need their sex to play out. Plus, Geoffrey’s self-esteem is at an all time low, so convincing him what he wants is not wrong isn’t easy for Paul. But Paul’s not a quitter.
The story flows swiftly, with an ease of writing, characterization, and dialogue. And the sex with all the tying up is ultra hot! In essence, this short tale’s got it all. Yes, I admit I was greedy for more, but I’ll take what I can get. Recommended.
