Title: Loving Jay
Author Renae Kaye
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Characters:Liam Turner and Jay (James Bell
Sub-Genre Coming out/romance
One thing Liam Turner knows for sure is that he’s not gay—after all, his father makes it very clear he’ll allow no son of his to be gay. And Liam believes it, until a chance meeting with James “Jay” Bell turns Liam’s world upside-down. Jay is vivacious and unabashedly gay—from the tips of his bleached hair to the ends of his polished nails. With a flair for fashion, overreaction, and an inability to cork his verbal diarrhea, Liam believes drama queen Jay must have a screw loose.
An accident as a teenager left Liam with a limp and a fear of driving. He can’t play football anymore either, and that makes him feel like less of a man. But that’s no reason to question his sexuality… unless the accident broke something else inside him. When being with Jay causes Liam’s protective instincts to emerge, Liam starts to believe all he knew in life had been a convenient excuse to stay hidden. From intolerance to confrontations, Liam must learn to overcome his fears—and his father—before he can accept his sexuality and truly love Jay.
I loved this story! A very closeted Liam knows for sure he is not gay. After all, he has been with women before, so he can’t be gay right? After a horrible car crash in his teenage years he is left with a limp, as well as, some muscle damage in his leg. This causes him to feel less like a man than before the accident. Yet, every day on his way to work he is mesmerized by a guy on the train. Liam actually looks forward to going to work just to see this guy. He has even made up a name for the guy-Jay. In his mind, Liam has talked to him a hundred times, but it has never happened in real life.
Jay or James, as his real name, is a total drama queen. Never been able to control his emotions or his mouth, so it’s a wonder he has lived this long. When a freak accident(well not so freak) makes the two men talk, they find they have a lot in common and they actually like being together as friends.
When Liam admits he is “exploring his options” Jay’s interest is definitely peaked, and the he two men finally let their guard down realize that there is something special here… the world changes for them both.
