Now eighteen, Cale Holland and Zeb Meadows have been best friends since they were freshmen in high school, and Zeb has been in love with Cale most of that time. While returning to their hometown after a trip to the state capital, Cale realizes his feelings for Zeb are growing beyond friendship, and Zeb is ecstatic to finally have a chance at romance with Cale.

On their trip, Cale is mysteriously drawn into the nearby countryside. He discovers a lake so beautiful, his father buys the surrounding property to build a residential development—despite rumors that the area is haunted—and soon after, Cale and Zeb return to the lake on a weekend camping trip to unwind and explore their feelings for each other.

But the haunting of the lake is more than a rumor. In the process of developing the land, Cale’s father accidentally frees an invisible entity that feeds on the energy of living creatures… and Cale and Zeb find themselves in a fight for their lives as they are stalked by the soul-devouring Haint.

This has a good blend of friendship into romance, and a good dose of horror.
Cale and Zeb have been friends for years, and Cale has only just realized his feelings are more than friendly. For Zeb, it’s a dream come true.

Ignoring the rumours about the lake in the area Cale’s father wants to develop, Cale and Zeb go with other friends, and Zeb’s younger brother on a camping trip.
However, the Haint isn’t a mindless entity, it can locate its prey by their heat signatures, and it can remain invisible. It attacks Zeb and his friends, who barely escape, leaving behind Cale who goes after his father.

Cale finds himself attuned to the spirit of one of the men who first uncovered the Haint, and who remained behind trying to keep anyone from freeing it once more.
Zeb returns with Deputies to rescue Cale. When he sees it chasing down his lover, he risks his life to protect him.

Not knowing if Zeb is alive or dead, Cale follows the ghost’s directions in an attempt to destroy the creature.

I recommend this to anyone who likes paranormal, ghosts, a cute couple, first times, and a HEA.
