Characters: Shaun, Ian
Sub-Genre: Contemporary Romance, Series, Coming of Age
Asking someone out for Valentine’s Day is simple, getting them there without a vehicle? Not so easy.
Shaun works at the local flower shop while going to college full time. As Valentine’s Day approaches, he has to watch all the people come in and get flowers for their significant other. Wishing he had a Valentine, he didn’t expect a sexy man to walk right in the shop and ask him out.
Ian has watched his friends find their partners all year, and when one forces him to go to the flower shop, he spots the sexiest geek he’s ever laid eyes on. Asking him out is easy, going on a date without a car…oh crap!
It is no secret that I love Jackie Nacht’s books. Her Holiday Jobs that Don’t Suck books are both very romantic and her characters are always well-written, likeable men. They always find themselves in a situation that is usually unexpected, and in turn, their lives are changed for the better.
At first glance, Shaun and Ian seemed pretty opposite. Ian hates flowers and Shaun loves them and works in a flower shop. Ian has many friends that he’s come to rely on and Shaun is very shy and has only one friend he’s learned to rely on. Ian is a little more worldly than Shaun, who is the quiet, somewhat naive geek. But the one thing I really loved about this story was how these two men looked past their differences and found out they had more in common than they thought. They both learn from each other, as well as, form a genuine friendship and a sizzling attraction that really resonated with me as a reader.
Roses are Red and Thorny…Ouch! is a sweet and sexy story that left this reader with a huge smile on her face. I love this series and hope Ms. Nacht continues to write more about these young men in the future.
Roses are Red and Thorny…Ouch! is the 11th book in the Holiday Jobs that Don’t Suck series. Every one of these books can easily be read as a stand-alone in the series, but I highly recommend reading all of them. They are all feel-good, sexy and romantic reads and they’re perfect when you’re in the mood for a quick read on a rainy day.
Here are the Holiday Jobs that Don’t Suck books in series order:
