Athan is a newly converted vampire with no recollection of who or what he is. He meets Evander, a history and mythology buff, at a new age bookstore while researching about vampires. The two men are lonely and enjoy each other’s company and slowly become friends. Athan has never been in a relationship with another man and Evander has never recovered from a painful past and does not believe in pursuing a more substantial commitment. Meanwhile, there have been a series of murders throughout Boston targeting underprivileged teenagers. Athan admits to Evander that not only is he a vampire but that he suspects himself to be the killer.
Athan’s Kiss is the first book I’ve read by Tina Blenke and it won’t be my last. I really loved her unique and sexy characters and I found the story itself was both interesting and fast-paced.
I’ve read many vampire romances and I thought Athan’s Kiss had a very fresh take on a well-loved storyline. There is a lot of action and mystery within the story that kept me intrigued and wondering what was going to happen next. Athan, in particular, wakes up one day without any memory of his previous life. He only knows his name and that he’s been converted into a vampire. Because of this, Athan almost loses his will to live. Instead, he’s become a shell of a man, wondering about his past and thinking he’d be lonely for the rest of his existence.
As soon as Athan meets the quiet and very intelligent, Evander, he is immediately drawn to him. Although, Athan believes that he’s always identified himself as straight, he can’t help but feel an intense attraction to Evander. Evander has his own past hurts that has caused him to close himself off to others, as well as, have trust issues of his own. Despite his best intentions, Evander is extremely attracted to Athan, and he finds himself coming back into his own, while starting to emotionally heal from his painful past. Athan brings out Evander’s more dominate/spunky side that he’d thought he lost. As their friendship develops into a meaningful attraction between them, both men’s lives are in danger from outside forces, and they must band together if they want to survive and possibly have a chance of having something special between them.
I really loved this book. I loved the personal growth that both Athan and Evander go through as the story progresses. I was also intrigued by the vampiric world that Ms. Blenke created, and I’m definitely looking forward to reading more about it. Also, there are several unanswered questions that I can’t wait to find out the answers too. Since Athan’s Kiss is the first book in the series, it definitely started it out with a bang, and left this reader hoping the next book will be out soon!
If you are looking for a well-written, paranormal romance with plenty of action, mystery and intriguing characters, then Athan’s Kiss is definitely the book for you!
