Title: At Heart
Author: AJ Llewellyn and DJ Manly
Publisher: Silver Publishing
Sam Channing has enrolled at FLETC for the rigorous seventeen week training program for US Marshals. Though Marco visits him when he can, their snatched moments together are precious few. Sam begins to realize how much Marco means to him, especially when he learns that his lover is working on a crazy case with wacko, drugged out Canadian movie star, Ezra Winters.
Things turn violent when Ezra’s female co-star is taken hostage but Marco has plenty of backup. Sam gets to see his new Marshal family in action firsthand. In spite of everything, at heart, it’s all about love and the extraordinary lengths the men and women of law enforcement will go to in order to defend and protect it.
At Heart is the eleventh book in the Orgasmic Texas Dawn series by authors DJ Manly and AJ Llewellyn. Like the other books in this series, this newest book is a romantic mystery with Sam Channing and Marco Dellburn taking center stage. In this story readers find Sam in training to be a US Marshall. I will admit that, for me, this had a “jumping the shark” aspect to it because of Sam’s previous illegal history, but I since I love this series, this is something I choose to overlook. I did like the way the authors choose to make Sam’s experience at FLETC difficult, as it is easy to see why others would hold his past against him.
As for Marco, he once again finds himself involved in one crazy case after another. Some of the cases Marco, and the other US Marshall, have found themselves in during the course of this series are, at times, over the top and this time is no different. I could not help wondering just how the authors came up with these ideas. Through all of this the two men continue to move forward in their relationship, something that is not always easy.
As fans of this series have come to expect, previous characters show up to lend Sam and Marco a hand. This is one of the aspects of this series that I have really come to enjoy. The authors do a wonderful job bringing the family relationship shared by Sam, Marco, Kieran, Jubilee, Sean, Nicholas, Trace, Pauline, and of course the boys, across for the readers to see.
I am a big fan of both these authors, and besides this series, have read several of their previous stories. I would strongly recommend At Heart to anyone who has not yet tried it, but remember this is a series that must be read in order.
