Title: Until Forever Comes
Author: Cardeno C
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Characters: Ethan Abbat and Miguel Rodriguez
POV: 1st Person
Sub-Genre: Werewolves, Vampires, Series
Ethan Abbatt is a wolf shifter who can’t shift. Plagued by pain and weakness all his life, he hopes to find an honorable death by joining his pack mates in a vampire attack. Instead, Ethan learns two things: draining his blood releases his pain and his wolf, and he has a true mate—a vampire named Miguel.
Miguel Rodriguez is more than four centuries old. Strong, powerful, and vicious, he walks through life as a shadow, without happiness or affection. When a young shifter tells Miguel they’re true mates, destined to be together, Miguel sends him away. But Ethan is persistent, and Miguel can’t resist for long. Once Miguel gives in, being together comes naturally. The challenge is keeping themselves alive so they can stay by each other’s side until forever comes.
Although Until Forever Comes is the second story in Cardeno C’s, Mates series, it is in many ways a prequel instead. In this new story we learn how Ethan and Miguel, characters we came to know in Wake Me Up Inside, first met. While I was slightly confused in the beginning, I did not realize the story would be set in the past, I was glad this was the story of Ethan and Miguel, who I was intrigued by in the first book.
I liked the way in which the author brought these two men together. Ethan is a shifter who is unable to shift. I liked this little twist and the way in which the author fixed the problem. The way that Ethan behaves the first time he shifts made me smile and I could just see him being slightly confused and then later overjoyed. Then there is Miguel. This is one tough, hunky, vampire and I could see why the author brought these two together. Their strengths and weaknesses counter each other nicely, and I love the chemistry that exists between them. The author knows how to bring this chemistry alive and they heat up the pages of this story.
Just because these two are mates, and thereby made for each other, does not mean their lives flow smoothly however. Shifters and vampires are like oil and water and the fact that our main characters are mates does not set well with others. The men not only have to put up with some of Ethan’s pack members, but also Miguel’s followers, who are worse then what they could ever have found with Ethan’s pack. In fact there were one or two moments that had me a little worried and only the fact that I knew the men would have a happy ending kept me reading.
Then, there is the real reason Miguel and his group came to town, and how it will end up affecting the pack. I loved all the little twists and turns the author takes the readers on during the course of this story. Until Forever Comes definitely landed on my keeper shelf, and is one book I know I will be re-reading again in the future.
