Renewed power, but an obstacle remains.
Killing Ruthen is not as easy as it seems. The Lord has cemented his power with more than just flames, and Tom and Nathan will have to overturn a longstanding tradition to achieve their dream, which has become more than just revenge. Now, they know they must fight for freedom.
Review:
Nathan and Tom, Air and Water mages, have retreated to a remote island after Nathan is severely injured by Tom’s failed attack on Ruthen. Tom finds himself being called to by a mysterious force somewhere far to the north of the island and is powerless to resist. He and a slowly recovering Nathan set sail on a journey to find the elusive something that is haunting him.
The men find a large ice floe that turns out to be a waterstone-a powerful object that augments Tom’s natural ability to control water. Nathan also touches the stone and finds his own powers of controlling air have also increased. Tom and Nathan find others who join them in their rebellion and they use their highly enhanced powers to defeat Ruthen once and for all. Nathan, who becomes the new Lord, and Tom, who is blinded as a result of the attack, are finally able to live in peace.
This story by Ravon Silvius is a fantastic tale of how Tom-a Water mage, and Nathan-an Air mage, recover from defeat at the hands of the Fire mage Lord Ruthen to ultimately overthrow the powerful ruler. The way that they go through the struggles and obstacles on the way to final victory make this a very compelling book. I love how the author blends magic and nature into an utterly convincing world not too different from our own. This book is a great way to spend a quiet afternoon reading .
