Blurb:

Dustin gave up on being worthy of anyone’s affections a long time ago, drowning his problems in substance abuse and meaningless encounters. He has learned it’s better to avoid love altogether than risk the inevitable moment when it all comes crashing down.

Nicolæ has neither eyesight nor excess, but he does have a wealth of family and intuition. He is nothing that Dustin would have anticipated in a potential lover, but the more Dustin discovers, the more he finds himself willing to accept the risk – even if his conscience and the people in his life keep warning him away.

Review:

This is the first book I’ve read by AF Henley and it definitely won’t be my last. I really liked how this author gets into the mind and heart of his heroes while writing a fast-paced, romantic storyline that really gripped my attention.

Dustin is living his life on the edge. He drinks too much and has many one night stands to escape the overwhelming feeling that he isn’t good enough for anything more. After one night of nameless sex, he finds himself hung over and standing in the rain trying to hail a cab. He’s surprised when a handsome man led by two dogs approaches him and gives him a cup of tea. As the man leaves, he makes a comment that leaves Dustin almost breathless and suddenly craving more from the sweet stranger.

Dustin tries to get the handsome stranger off of his mind, but fails miserably. He finds himself going to the street he met the good Samaritan so he can find him and see why he’s so fascinated with him. He goes to a quirky shop that sells all types of tea leaves where he soon discovers the strangers name is Nicolae. Determined to meet him, he soon becomes acquaintance with a relative of Nicolae’s and is taken to a barn dance, where Nicolae is attending.

Sparks fly between them, once Dustin spots Nicolae sitting alone and moving seductively with the music. Intrigued and fascinated, Dustin soon approaches the blind man and soon realizes that there is a lot more to Nicolae than meets the eye. As the two men start to form a strong bond between them, there are people who would like to keep the couple apart. Because of this, Dustin must face his own fears and insecurities if he wants to keep Nicolae in his life forever.

I loved this book. Although it’s written in third person the book is told through Dustin’s point of view. Because of this, we’re able to see the insecurities that plague Dustin and watch him transform into someone who doesn’t think he’s worthy of love, to someone who will fight for it. I also loved Nicolae. He’s a very unique and sexy hero that has a calm, naturalness about him that I found very attractive. Because he’s gifted in more ways than one, he is quite fascinating and I understood why Dustin became so enamored with him.

The story itself is very well-written and moves quickly. Before I knew it, once I started it I was reading the last word, and I admit I hated to see it come to an end. Both of these men were likeable heroes that I thought fit very well together, and I loved the way it ended. I will say the main reason why I didn’t give this book five stars was there were still so many things about Nicolae that I wanted to know. In some ways, he’s still mysterious to me. Between his gifts and his past, I would have loved to have had more of these questions answered. But other than that little niggle, I truly loved these men and enjoyed watching Dustin’s character evolve from someone who has no inner-self-confidence to a man who believes he’s worthy of Nicolae’s love. Highly Recommended!
