Love and magic on the open ocean.
Nathan is a skilled mage with control over the air, powering ships over a world covered in water. However, under the control of the powerful Lord Ruthen, a mage of fire, he is insignificant, and he is cowed by the memory of Ruthen killing his childhood friend Tom.
But his friend is not dead, and has nurtured his power over water, which is feared by Fire mages. Nathan is swept up not only into Tom’s idea of revenge against Ruthen, but into love with the outcast mage.
Review:
Nathan and his fellow Air mage companion Sam are being worked to exhaustion and beyond by their ship’s captain, who has orders to pursue a ship that stole gold and weapons from Lord Ruthen, no matter what the cost. Lord Ruthen is a Fire mage who rules his island nation with an iron fist. The other types of mages-Earth and Air-are either persecuted or barely tolerated as they are exploited for their powers.
Nathan’s ship is attacked by an unseen force that no one has ever seen before. It turns out that the source of the attack is Tom, a childhood friend of Nathan’s that was thought to have been killed by Ruthen five years before. Tom had survived the attack and became a Water mage, something that was thought to be impossible. Tom agreed to go with Nathan to capture the pirate ship as it fits into his plans to get close enough to Ruthen to be able to destroy him.
This fascinating story is a tale of a world ruled by mages. Nathan, an Air mage, and Tom, a Water mage are drawn into an alliance to overthrow a tyrannical Fire mage named Lord Ruthen. The alliance turns into something much deeper as the men finalize their plans to attack Ruthen. I love this book by Ravon Silvius that has all the action, suspense and intrigue I could want.
