Falling in love with one of the most powerful men in the city while trying to appease the man assigned to collect his brother’s debts should be a nightmare, but it’s just Asher’s life.
Asher has a few issues. His older brother amassed a huge gambling debt that landed him in the hospital, his immediate boss at the club where he works is out for revenge, and the owner of the club, wealthy Max Tyler, is after his ass. Literally. Asher is also attracted to Tyler, but the same people who put his brother in the hospital also want Tyler dead. Not only that but they’re blackmailing Asher into helping with their plot. Do as they say or his brother will die. But Tyler is not so easily defeated, by thugs or a reluctant Asher.
Lust at first sight, Tyler always gets what he wants, and he wants Asher even if it kills him.
Review:
Ryker Madden is Asher’s older brother and he has a gambling problem that has landed him in a hospital bed, again. Asher is reluctantly accustomed to bailing Ryker out of his gambling difficulties but this time he cannot begin to fathom where his brother’s debt is going to take him.
On his way from the hospital to his new job at the Rise nightclub Asher is accosted by Brogan, the man his brother owes $24,000 to and who is also secretly obsessed with Asher, and he is informed that in one way or another the debt will be paid in full. This makes Asher late for work on his first night on the job, putting him immediately on the negative side of his new boss, Neil Griffin. To make things even worse, the elusive owner of the club, Max Tyler, has also taken a liking to the cute young Asher, putting Asher even further on the outs with Neil, who also just happens to be Max’s ex.
Brogan wants his money, but he wants Asher even more. Max also wants Asher and Max always gets what he wants. Neil wants Asher out of the picture so he can get Max back. And Ryker? All Ryker wants is to get better and start gambling again. Will Max get his prize? Or will Neil’s attempt at sabotaging that hook-up succeed? Will Brogan get his money AND the object of his obsession? And what about poor Asher? Does anyone even care what the innocent of the story wants?
Here is a story of romance, lust and obsession brilliantly layered with mystery and suspense. Hurri Cosmo quickly gathers the reader’s interest and thrusts them into a tale not unbelievable for the streets and politics of Chicago. I’m not normally a betting man but when a question arises here, I’ll bet you won’t pick the answer the author does.
It was a pure delight to encounter true innocence and how each character reacted to that innocence added to the entertainment value. I’m only hoping that the author has a sequel in mind because the combination of the tale and the author’s telling of it certainly deserves an unending status.
Bravo Hurri Cosmo.
