Ten years ago, the Great Unveiling revealed the presence of supernatural beings living on Earth. But the residents of the ruined city discovered in Majlis al-Jinn are long dead—or so junior archaeologist Pip Butler thought until he accidentally unleashed a very naked genie named Jinn.
Even though he’s been shyly pining for his charismatic supervisor, Val Velde, Pip has a hard time refusing Jinn’s flirtatious advances. He barely has time to even consider the fact that he has an all-powerful genie and three glorious wishes at his fingertips when ruthless mercenaries sweep down on the dig to collect the most valuable artifact of all—Jinn’s lamp.
So Pip, Val, and Jinn have to work together in a race against the clock to discover the secrets of the ancient city, free their captive colleagues, and keep Jinn from the mercenaries’ clutches—all while trying to sort out their romantic tangle.
I’ve never read a Susan Laine book I didn’t like. There is something about the world she creates for her characters that really intrigues me. Between her captivating characters and her creative storylines, I find myself instantly swept up into the lives her characters and before I know it, I’ve finished the book
The book revolves around three heroes. Pip, Val and Jinn. All three men are very different people from very different walks of life. Pip is studious and a self-proclaimed wallflower. Ever since he met is supervisor Val, Pip has been secretly in love with him. Val is confident, handsome and very charismatic, and since Pip believes that he will never even be a blip of Val’s radar, he’s pretty sure that his love will always be an unrequited one. He’s convinced that Val will never really take him seriously, nor will he ever look at Pip as a potential lover.
Both men are archaeologists at the site of Majlis al-Jinn and have discovered a lamp in one of its many mysterious rooms. Within the treasures, they find a lamp in which Pip is to inventory. When Pip is checking it out and rubs it just the right way, a VERY handsome genie appears named, Jinn, who tells Pip he is gifted with three wishes. Even though the wishes are like a dream come true, Pip finds he’s more intrigued with Jinn than wishing for the wishes itself. Both Jinn and Pip fall into an immediate attraction for each other, making Pip question his feelings for Val because there is something very compelling about Jinn that really pulls at both Pip’s heartstrings and his desire for him. But when Val discovers Pip and Jinn together, his feelings and attraction he has kept secret from Pip comes front and center, making both men realize that they shouldn’t waste any more time away from each other. But there is trouble ahead for them. Even though being with Val is a dream come true for Pip, there is something about his new feelings for Jinn that Pip cannot deny.
To make matters worse, there are some very bad men who know about Jinn’s lamp and they will do anything to get it, putting all three men in grave danger. As they continue to try to escape the clutches of these evil men, all three men find they have a strong, emotional bond and attraction between them that cannot be denied. As the men fall into each other’s arms and in love, they must find a way to escape and somehow free Jinn from the curse of being a genie in a bottle.
I really liked every moment of this story. I do have to confess I had no idea this book was going to be a threesome based romance. It’s no secret that I’m not a fan of threesomes or ménage romances, but I have to admit, that Ms. Laine did an awesome job of intertwining the lives and romance between the three heroes and I ended up really enjoying watching them fall in love with one another.
The chemistry between all three heroes was steaming hot! I liked the banter and the camaraderie between them, and all three were very likeable, flawed men. Even though Val and Jinn are super-hot, (Whew) Pip was my favorite of the three. He’s stronger and sexier than he gives himself credit for and I loved his determination to free Jinn and for all of three of them to be together. Pip in particular really evolves into his own man, and I loved watching him change into a more confident, self-assured man.
Another thing I really liked about this book was: there is tons of action and adventure throughout the storyline. Between the many things the heroes must go through to get away from the men who want Jinn to the mazes they have to solve just to survive, I found myself cheering them on and loving the journey they took me on. If you are looking for an action packed, sexy romance between three sexy heroes, then Genie’s Wish is definitely the book for you!
Although this book is the second book in the Lifting the Veil series, I do believe it can be easily read as a stand-alone book. But, both books are really interesting and if you’re looking for some heavy romance, you’ll enjoy both of them.
