When sexy, kilt-wearing astronomy professor Greg MacIntyre moves in next door, Blake Theriot knows he’s in trouble. Blake is a research librarian, and he likes things orderly and controlled. But in his secret fantasies, he craves a big, powerful man like Greg to stir up his life. Every time Blake tries to talk to his erudite neighbor, his brain shuts down and his vocabulary is reduced to one-word utterances, but when Blake’s niece challenges him to invite Greg to dinner, he does. A few shots of after-dinner whiskey loosen Blake’s inhibitions, and the two men share a hot kiss and the promise of more. Can Blake relax enough to give himself a chance with Greg, or will his fear of letting go ruin his hopes for love?
Review:
Whew! The sizzling chemistry between the two heroes kept me enthralled with the story from the moment they met until the last word. My goodness, Ms. Violet can write sexual tension between her two men! Not only did I love the physical attraction between them, I loved the way Greg and Blake worked through both of their insecurities for the chance of having a deep love between them.
Both Greg and Blake are well-written characters. I loved Blake’s clumsiness and the anxiety he had about putting himself on the line for the possibility of having Greg’s love and respect. Blake has been hurt in the past, and it’s hard for him to be vulnerable to Greg. But watching Blake work through his issues and past hurts to fight for Greg’s love made this book a very interesting and thought-provoking read.
Greg is sexy, uber-smart and although he seems confident, he too has his own issues to work through. He’s often got his mind on his work, so he has to make great efforts to communicate with Blake and help Blake fight through his fears so they can make something special of their relationship.
I also thought the secondary characters were a driving force in this book. Blake’s sister and niece are both strong focal points in his life, and I liked the banter and relationship he had with both of them. I also appreciated how both of them wanted to help nudge Blake into the right direction of taking a chance at love with Greg. All of the characters in this book were very well-written and I enjoyed reading about all of them.
This is the first book I’ve read by Silvia Violet and it definitely won’t be my last! Between her ability to write realistically written and interesting characters and her quick moving plot, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
