Magical species must never mix. According to the rules, Simon Osborne should ignore the children’s cries for help. After all, they’re werewolf cubs, and he’s an apprentice mage. But for once in his life, Simon breaks the rules and rescues the cubs, saving them from a demon intent on draining them of their magic.
Of course, all actions have consequences, and Simon’s bold move earns him the displeasure of his peers and the attention of the cubs’ alpha, a man named Gray Townsend.
The last thing Gray needs is a mage in his life, but Simon did save his son. Since Simon is now a friend of the pack, Gray doesn’t have much choice about it—or the forbidden attraction that goes along with it. Unfortunately for the alpha, he needs Simon’s help to track down the demon behind the kidnappings—before it strikes again. Simon and Gray must join forces to protect the pack, even as they struggle to resist the temptation that threatens to destroy them both.
Review:
Wow! Once I started Mind Magic by Poppy Dennison, I couldn’t stop! Between the unique and creative storyline to the well-written characters this book felt like I swept through this story quickly with ease.
Simon is an apprentice mage who is just a few weeks away from being a full-fledged mage. Although Simon should be excited about this, he’s not. He knows he still has a long way to go and even his mentor isn’t thrilled by his progress. When Simon has an overwhelming feeling of children needing help, he immediately puts himself in danger, even though these children are weres and being around a different species is strictly forbidden. Using his mage magic, Simon is able to save the children from the demon who kidnapped them and immediately takes them back to their were community where they will be safely given back to their parents. He realizes that because he saved these children, there will most likely be dire consequences from the elders of the mage, but he can’t bring himself to regret his actions. He will do anything to help these children who have immediately embraced him as one of their own.
As soon as he reaches the pack community, he is greeted by one of the children’s father, Grey, who is the Alpha of the pack. Instead of being worried for his life or feeling threatened by Grey, Simon is immediately drawn to the handsome Alpha in ways that he’s never experienced before. Because of Simon’s heroism, he’s immediately welcomed into the community and the pack embraces him as one of their own. As he gets to know Grey and the pack family, Simon starts to question his own lonely existence and what he really wants out of his life. When Grey’s child is still threatened by some mysterious magic, Grey immediately enlists Simons help, and together with his new pack family they vow to fight the entity that is threatening the pack children and Simon’s life.
I LOVED this book! I loved the camaraderie between the pack members and the obvious love and affection they have for one another. Also, the world building that Ms. Dennison creates in this book is well thought out and reads extremely fresh and creative. I thought her explanation of the difference species and what magic each species have. The story itself flowed very smoothly and it was incredibly easy to get wrapped up into the storyline and these amazing characters.
I also loved how both Simon and Grey do some real soul searching and personal growth throughout the story. They truly made an unbeatable team together and I loved each moment that they were written in the story together. The chemistry between them is scorching hot! I adored the intensity and obvious affection and love Simon and Grey have for each other. Also, the secondary characters live and breathe off of the written page just as much as the heroes do. I appreciated the strong family values the pack had and how they embraced Simon because of his heroism toward their cubs. Their loyalty and honor for Grey and Simon and the children was something truly beautiful and refreshing to read and I relished reading every moment of this book.
If you are looking for a fresh, fast-paced read with amazingly written characters then Mind Magic is definitely for you. Because this book is the first in a series, there were some questions unresolved at the end of the book. I have a feeling as this series continues; it will just get better and will grip this reader even more than this book has already done. I’m anxiously looking forward to the next book in the series and Highly Recommend, Mind Magic if you love a wonderfully written, romantic paranormal romance.
